The clock maker inscription is illegible but there is a pencil mark lower down which is easier to read but still rather difficult to make out

Prisons were very dirty and extremely overcrowded

Lundh’s meticulous brushwork here highlights the textural details of the birds' feathers and the contrast against the plain muted background is wonderfully suggestive
