54 A nationwide cohort study of 120,054 patients with type 2 diabetes over a median follow up of 7.4 years found an 11% reduction in the rate of dementia with GLP-1 receptor agonists (95% of patients were on liraglutide) when used as a second-line treatment compared with other glucose-lowering therapies, with greater benefit seen with longer duration of use
