Magazine Hatch cables Twin Willows at New SouthRust blooms across the heavy steel door of a magazine hatch at Newington Armament Depot and Nature Reserve, its bolts and hinges holding firm against more than a century of weathering. The hatch is one of dozens securing the earth mounded explosive storehouses built across the depot from the 1920s onward, each detail designed around the possibility of accidental detonation.
